Mount Chocorua 3500’ Trip 2 7/12/00
7.7 Miles 2600’ Elevation gain

Having heard of Emmas mountain climbing skills, Mr. Mountain himself wanted to try a hike with her to see if he could learn any new tricks. Starting out on the Piper Trail this time, we turned northeast off of this onto the Nickerson Ledge Trail, which soon brings us onto the Carter Ledge Trail. There are excellent views all along these trails of Chocorua and the Sisters, and the trail is a little more challenging than Champney Falls. Of course Emma found none of this important, and led us up the mountain. Crossing the Sisters gave us great views in all directions, but especially of Chocorua’s summit cone. It was an awesome day so we took our time, and spent quite a bit of time on the summit, climbing up on the rock Chief Chocorua supposedly leapt to his death from. After lunch we began the descent, passing the Jim Liberty Cabin sheltered in the rock just below the summit, a good place to head if bad weather comes up as the summit offers no cover. We took the Hammond Trail to the Weetamoo Trail back to the Piper Trail and on to the parking lot.
